Range Issue

Wed Aug 19, 2020 9:30 pm

I have had my Kona since June 2020 (2 months now) and it currently has km on it. The last two times it was charged the available range when charged 100% dropped significantly, from 471 km to 360 km. Why would that happen so dramatically (I would expect a slow drop over time).

I believe it merely reflects how the car had been driven over the previous xx km. Has anyone figured out the exact algorithm?

Yes I drove it above highway speed (120 km/hr) with something on the roof, for the previous couple of charges.

I own a 2019 Kona EV. "Range miles available" is indeed relative to previous average xx miles/kwh efficiency. I do not know how many "previous" miles affect the displayed range miles available. I've found the SOC% and actual miles driven on trip odometer more reliable when I'm trying to figure out when and how long I need to charge on a long (multiple charge) trip. None of it is fool proof. Better to be safe than sorry in my book when planning charging needs.

I have a 2021 Kona EV. I have been having a lot of trouble with the range predictions. Just today, I was charging the car and noticed the following.
At 98% charg6ed the range prediction was 289 miles. After completing the charging cycle, the range dropped to 258 miles. I then keyed in a destination that was 211 miles away, the range dropped to 227 miles. So, I keyed in another destination that was 997 miles away, the range changed to 262 miles. Finally, I keyed in a destination that was 3.3 miles away and the range changed to 256 miles. I have taken the car on several long trips and have found that on a 200 (or so) mile trip the predicted range can change by up to 50 miles between charge ups. I have an open case number with Hyundai and have had the car to the dealer three times. They can't find any reason for this behavior. Does this match up with what you are experiencing?
